Karakhanid (Arabic) Script Specialist

We are looking for a specialist who can read and transcribe Old Turkic texts written in the Arabic script, especially material from the Karakhanid period. The principal sources include Maḥmūd al-Kāşgarī’s Dīwānu Luġāti’t-Turk and the Arabic-script manuscripts of the Qutadgu Bilig, including the Cairo and Fergana witnesses.

The work includes converting manuscript text into searchable Unicode Arabic-script text, preparing a corresponding Latin transliteration and translation, and connecting words and passages with dictionary entries on our website. Other verified Arabic-script Old Turkic material may be added as the corpus expands.

Experience with historical Arabic-script orthography, manuscript transcription, textual criticism or Karakhanid-period Turkic sources would be especially valuable.
