kalı-

Meaning:
rise into the air; fly

kalı- denotes upward movement into the air and, especially in bird contexts, flying or flying away. Later attestations also show the meanings “leap, jump” and, of a horse, “buck”.

The vowel length is uncertain. The verb is distinct from kal- “remain” and kala- “heap up”. The noun kalık “air, visible sky” and the extended verbs kalık- ~ kalk- are generally assigned to the same word family.
