otuz tatar
Meaning:
Thirty Tatars (historical group name)
otuz tatar is an ethnopolitical group name conventionally understood as “thirty Tatar tribes”. This interpretation is disputed: Ablet Kamalov proposes that the numeral refers instead to the thirty-tribe structure of the Türk polity with which the Tatars were associated. The designation is distinct from tokuz tatar “Nine Tatars”.
