yēl
Meaning:
mane
yel “mane” is distinct from the homonymous yel “wind”. Its relationship to back-vowel yal “mane, withers” is disputed: one analysis reconstructs separate *jēl and *jāl, while another regards the front vowel as secondary. The quantity of the vowel in the attested Old Turkic word is not securely established.
