nägülük

Meaning:
for what purpose?

nägülük is an interrogative, predominantly adverbial word meaning ‘why?, for what purpose?’.

The form näglük is hypothesised to be a contracted variant of nägülük. Erdal explains the reduction as loss of the medial vowel facilitated by the adjacent l, and regards nälük as a further contraction: nägülük → näglük → nälük. The three forms therefore are hypothesised to belong to a single historical development rather than representing independent formations.
